Chapter 7: The Emergency Room

Alan Quartermaine and Bobbie Spencer rush out to meet the incoming
ambulance. They know the patient in the ambulance has been critically
injured with multiple gunshot wounds.

The back doors of the ambulance open and the paramedics begin giving the
patient's vitals to Alan and Bobbie. Bobbie notices Laura first. She
looks at the patient and realizes it's Luke.

Bobbie:"Luke?! Oh my God! What happened?"

Laura responds numbly:"It was some sort of mob hit...."

They wheel Luke into the ER at top speed, with Laura following alongside
them. As they enter the trauma area, Bobbie turns to Laura.

B: "Laura, you're going to have to wait out here in the waiting room."

Laura kisses an unconscious Luke on the forehead before breaking away."I
love you Luke. Come back to me."

Alan turns to Bobbie."I'm sorry Bobbie, but you can't assist on this
one. You're too close to him..."

Bobbie appears shocked at first, but then nods in understanding. Bobbie
and Laura watch the medical team work to stabilize Luke through the
windows of the trauma room. They see the heart monitor go flat at one
point. They both hold their breaths as Alan gets out the paddles and
tries to resuscitate Luke. They breathe again when they see Luke's
heart start again. After a few minutes, Bobbie pulls Laura away from the
trauma room door and leads her to the waiting area. Bobbie looks Laura
over for any wounds. Laura is covered with Luke's dried blood. It is on
her dress and hands. Bobbie doesn't find any injuries.

Bobbie:"Laura? Can you tell me what happened?"

Laura is nonresponsive. She seems to be in a daze. Bobbie touches her
hand.

Bobbie:"Laura? Please, can you tell me what happened." Still Laura
doesn't respond.

Bobbie gives up."Okay, I'm going to make some phone calls." She points
to the nurses station. "I'll be right over there if you need me, okay?"
Laura doesn't appear to hear anything . Bobbie pats Laura's hand one
last time before leaving.

Bobbie goes to the phone and dials."Lucky, you need to get down to the
ER right away. Your Dad's here and he's seriously injured. " Pause. "I
don't know much more than he was shot." Another brief pause. " Okay,
see you in a few minutes."

Bobbie stops for a moment as the gravity of the situation sinks in. She
quickly wipes away the tears. She picks up the phone again. "Hello,
Ruby? You need to come down to the ER as soon as possible. It's Luke.
He's been shot."

Just as Bobbie is finishing up her second phone call, Alexis is brought
in, escorted by Jason. A nurse takes Alexis back to a room. Jason hangs
back long enough to speak to Bobbie.

Bobbie:"Was she with Luke and Laura? Can you tell me what happened?"

Jason:"Yes, so was Sonny. Sonny didn't make it." Jason forces himself
to stay calm. "A black car came out of nowhere and sprayed them with
bullets. I was just pulling up when it happened. Stefan needs to be
called, as does Nikolas. I'll notify Mike. I need to get back to her
now. Can you tell me about Luke's condition?"

Bobbie reaches out to put a hand on Jason's arm."Oh, Jason, I'm so sorry
about Sonny. Of course I'll call Stefan and Nikolas. Alan is working
to save Luke now. It's touch and go."

Jason: "Thanks." He takes off to find Alexis in one of the examining
rooms.

Jason walks into the Alexis's exam room to find Alexis in a fight with
the doctor.

A:"I don't care. I will not allow you to use xrays on me."

Doc:"Mrs Corinthos, please. If we don't repair your arm right way, it
is likely that you will lose the use of it."

A: "I'm pregnant. I am not going to jeopardize this pregnancy in any
way. Do you understand me?"

Doc: "We can shield you in such a way so as not to put the fetus at
risk. I know you are distraught after the terrible experience you just
went through. Perhaps your friend can help you see how important it is
to use the xrays."

J: "Alexis is perfectly rational, Doctor. It is you that has the
problem. You can take that condescending attitude and shove it. I
suggest you find a way to treat her arm without xrays."

"I suggest you listen to Mr Morgan and Mrs Corinthos, Dr Harris. Or my
family will find her a doctor who will." Nikolas chimes in.

Alexis, Jason, and the doctor turn towards Nikolas in surprise. None of
them had noticed him standing in the doorway. The doctor realizes
quickly that he is outnumbered. He excuses himself to go consult with an
expert orthopedist.

Jason:"How long have you been standing there, Nik?"

Nik:"Long enough to hear Alexis say she's pregnant." Nikolas comes over
and gives Alexis a hug. Alexis breaks down into sobs again.

Nikolas whispers to Jason as he comforts Alexis."What happened? How did
she get hurt?"

Jason tells him the whole story as briefly as possible. Nikolas swears
and holds Alexis tighter when Jason tells him about Sonny.

Jason: "Can you be with her for a while? I have to make some phone
calls."

Nikolas: "I can be with Alexis for as long as she needs me to. Do what
you have to do."

Jason: "Thanks. Alexis? Are you going to be okay with Nik while I go
make some calls? If you want, I can stay right here."

Alexis shakes her head. "Go make the phone calls Jason. As long as I
have Nikolas here with me, I'll be fine." She lets go of Nikolas to hug
Jason tightly. "Thank you, Jason. I don't know what I would have done
without you..."

Jason: "You'll never have to find out."

Alexis whispers in Jason's ear, "Find out who did this. I want them to
pay."

Jason whispers back before he breaks the embrace. "I will. And they will
pay. That's my promise to you and to Sonny."

Jason leaves Nikolas and Alexis. He finds a pay phone in the waiting
room. Jason picks up the phone and dials a number.

Jason:"Yeah, this is Jason Morgan. I'm calling in my favor. I want the
word out on the street that I'm looking for Harry Silver. I want to
know where he's staying, and who he's working for. ASAP. Thanks.
Here's a the number to reach me at...." He reads the number off the pay
phone.

Jason makes phone call after phone call.. relaying the same message to
each contact.
