GH2017.66 Interviews
- General hospital Kris's room: a policeman sits outside the door. Tom Hardy
jr. is checking on his patient who is feeling a bit snappish. Georgie comes
in at the last minute to straighten up after Dr. Hardy makes his examination.
Jr.: Everything is healing up nicely. A few more days in the hospital
just to make sure there are no problems with internal bleeding or infection
and you can go home.
Kris: (Grimaces) Great. Have you tried the food here, doc? I need to get
out of here.
Jr.: If you leave, it'll be against my advice. But Nik Cassadine was
pretty insistent about knowing when you could be moved.
Kris: I haven't heard from him.
Jr.: I'm sure you will. I'm going to finish my rounds I'll check on you
before I leave tonight. (Tommy leaves)
Georgie: In such a hurry to go. One would almost think you had someone
waiting for you. (As she is straightening up, she searches the room for
listening devices.) I stopped by the island last night to tell Nik and
Stefan how you are. Nik said he is trying to keep the family away from you
at least until the clamor dies down. I guess he figures having the
Cassadine come visit you would have not only the police but also the press
down on you. Nik was looking rather frazzled. Evidently, Staci is giving
him some trouble. She's just like her father in so many ways. She'll
never believe you're safe until you're just where she can keep an eye on
you. (She unscrews the mouth piece of the telephone receiver looking for a
bug as Kris watches with interest as this "nurse" skillfully tosses his room
while not drawing the attention of the PCPD guard. Georgie clucks as she
finds the device she is looking for-- a tiny dot attached to the interior of
the phone. She shows it to Kris, then puts the phone back together leaving
the bug in place.) That's exactly what Nik is doing, gathering everyone
where he can keep an eye on them. (She moves the phone across the room.)
Nik's such a private person and in the hospital there's no expectation of
privacy really. Who knows who'd be listening?
Kris: Exactly. Which is why I'll be glad to get back on the island also.
Georgie: Well I've had broken ribs before and it isn't fun, and you threw
stitches into the mix. You might want to make sure that you get everything
you need before jumping ship. My mother is going to be swinging by later to
bring me dinner. Do you want me to call her to bring you something? She's
friends with most of the cops she could get in here easy as pie.
Kris: (ruefully) It seems they'll let anyone in.
Georgie: I wouldn't go that far, but it'd be interesting to know who has
been in your room lately. I'll talk to you later. (Georgie leaves.)
John Doe's room. Georgie places her own listening device on the bed frame
as she fluffs the pillows of Mr. Doe. Pressing the beeper at her waist, she
sends a message to Stefan that the bug is in place. Mr. Doe is rather
listless. Both legs are casted where the engine of the car had pinned him,
breaking both legs. He's on a heart monitor because of the bruising his
chest took when he hit the steering wheel. Doe immediately perks up and
totally focuses on Georgie as she begins to speak softly to him in Russian.
Georgie: (almost crooning) You screwed up; didn't you? I wonder what
happens when they find out you're Russian. Your pretty face will lead them
right back to your boss. If you live that long. You've become a liability;
haven't you? Perhaps the American police could help you. America is a big
place with plenty of places to hide . . . especially when their government
is helping you. I'm sure you're feeling very squeezed right now: the
police, the Cassadine and your boss. Who would be more likely to be your
friend now? Consider your silence. Whose life will it save? Do you think
your boss will really believe you told them nothing? The Cassadines already
know enough to want you dead, but the police-- to them you still have some
value . . . what will you do? (The man is pale and sweating.)
Doe: Who are you? Who do you work for?
Georgie: Truth.
Meanwhile, at the nurses Station Keesha's attention it drawn to the monitor
of the John Doe's room. She sees Georgie Jones talking to the man that had
not spoken yet to anyone else.
Keesha: Is there volume on this?
Nurse: Sure. (She reaches over turning on the sound to the monitor and
Keesha hears the sound of a foreign conversation. )
Keesha: That sounds like Russian to me.
Nurse: (Shrugging) Who knows? Georgie speaks a few languages.
Keesha: Is he up to having visitors?
Nurse: The doctor hasn't put on restrictions other than the visits are
brief. The police are the ones that are vetting who gets to see the guy.
But you won't have a problem with that, will you?
Keesha: Nope. Not a problem for me. (She walks down the corridor to John
Doe's room.)
And over on Spoon Island, Stefan and Nik gather around the receiver in the
communications room. Nik leans against the wall and Stefan sits in a
comfortable chair competently tuning the equipment until the sound is clear.
Stefan hears all of Georgie's conversation and smiles.
Nik: I don't get it? What's she doing?
Stefan: What is the American saying . . . "priming the pump?" By the time
the police are ready to talk to him he will be saying anything and
everything to avoid being in danger from his boss.
And she has arranged for us to hear it all. Wait-- what is this? (He hears
a voice speaking English enter the room.)
John Doe's room
Keesha: I see you've found some common ground, Georgie.
Georgie: Testing a theory, Keesha. I was here when he came out from under
anesthesia and I thought I heard something I recognized. (In Russian to the
Patient) This is the American DA, Keesha Garcia. She's the one that can
help you. If she wants and if you make it worth it to her.
Keesha: What did you tell him?
Georgie: Your name and who you are.
Keesha: I think it's time he returned the favor.
Patient: (in heavily accented English) Sergey Ivanov
Keesha: (satisfied) So you do speak English. That'll make things so much
easier.
Sergey: ( Shaking his head slightly) My English is not good.
Keesha: Georgie, Can you stick around to translate?
Georgie: Not for long, I'm supposed to be working-- remember? Besides, I'm
not a court approved translator. I wouldn't want to screw up your case.
Keesha: I'll tape the conversation and have our translator go over it
later. It would be a big help.
Georgie: (looking at her watch) Okay, for as long as I can. (Keesha starts
the tape recorder she takes from her bag. Georgie holds the patient's hand
loosely in hers and watches his vitals on the monitor while translating for
Keesha the Miranda Warnings. When asked the patient tells his name and where
he had been staying in Port Charles. The questions are routine and the
patient often answers before the translation as he recognizes the question.
As the questions become more complicated, he relies more and more on Georgie
as he falls back into Russian to explain himself.)
Spoon Island both men listen intently as the man begins to spill all that he
knows. At times there are pauses in the explanation as Georgie interrupts
the man and rephrases a question-- tightening it. Keesha will have no
knowledge of what she is doing until her own translator listens to the tape.
Each time Georgie interrupts the story changes slightly, more details are
revealed. Stefan is the first to start swearing but Nik comes abruptly from
the wall as he hears Georgie's translation confirming what he heard and
couldn't believe.
Georgie: We had no intention of hurting the girl. Her father interfered
once too often in our business. If she were in our possession then we could
force him to leave Russia and take his foundation with him . . .
Nik: This is why we are the targets. The Foundation work is interfering
with their business at home.
Stefan : Kidnaping, a particularly foul method but effective. Especially
since they were not asking for money, and it would have been unlikely that
we would contact the authorities.
Nik: After what happened last time I think Staci is more afraid if being
kidnaped that she is of being shot. She cannot find out about this.
Georgie: ... the driver was shot so they would have no way to leave. But
the man in the store knew something was wrong. Surprise was no longer
possible. Mikhail opened fire. He hoped to injure both of the bodyguards
so that the girl would be unprotected. (In Russian- What about the other
woman) The other woman was unimportant. If she got in the way she would
have been eliminated also. Only the daughter of the Cassadine was to be
taken alive.
Keesha: What about the building?
Tom Hardy jr. enters the room and terminates the interview before the
patient can answer.
Jr.: I would've appreciated being notified of this interview. Ms. Garcia,
this is inappropriate.
Keesha: (Shrugging) Maybe . . . but we found out some things that will
help you here like who the guy is and where he's from.
Jr.: With Georgie's help. Which means we would have discovered it anyway.
Thanks, but no thanks. My priority is to get this guy healthy. Talk to me
the next time you decide to interview one of my patients.
Keesha: Sure. (She pulls a card from her purse and hands it to the
patient) You've been very forthcoming. If you want to talk, give me a
call. (Georgie translates. Keesha then turns off her tape recorder and
packs it up, leaving to meet Gina for her afternoon break)
Jr: (Glaring at Georgie furiously) Damn it, Georgie! You know that was
inappropriate! What in the hell were you thinking?
Georgie: (in a low ticked voice) If you're going to rip into me, Doctor; I'd
appreciate if it were in private and not in front of a patient.
Jr.: Fine, let's go talk.
Georgie: Fine! (She stalks out of the room before Tommy, pushing against
the door of an empty room which Tommy shuts firmly behind them.)
Jr.: If you wanted to be a cop, you should have joined the PCPD!
Georgie: (Hotly) I want to know why you are yelling at me. You and I go way
back. I have NEVER seen you call anyone on the carpet in front of a patient
like that.
Jr.: Don't try to turn this around. That man is our patient! How can he
trust us when you're serving him up to the police?
Georgie: How can we protect the other patients if we don't know who the guy
is and who might be coming after him?
Jr.: That is not your call to make, NURSE.
Georgie: Who else is going to ASK, DOCTOR?! That man is a threat to
friends of mine and my sister.
Jr.: (Taken aback) What does Maxie have to do with this?
Georgie: Didn't you know? She works for the Cassadines now. And since we
have two Cassadine employees in the morgue along with one over on the surg.
floor I think that makes it my business. (She stalks out.)
Jr.: (To himself) And mine. Damn it, Maxie! What in the Hell have you
stepped in?
Kris's room Georgie walks in she's still fuming from her confrontation with
Tommy.
Kris: What's up?
Georgie: (bluntly) Talked to one of the shooters. He's Russian Mob and
evidently the plan was to kidnap Staci.
Kris: (Disbelieving) Who the hell are you?
Georgie: (Somewhat snippy) I'm a nurse at General hospital. What were you
expecting Florence Nightingale? Or maybe Cherry Aames?
Kris: Cherry who? Never mind. Were they behind the fire at Dr. William's
building?
Georgie: I don't know. The interview was interrupted. (Her eyes narrow)
But he did say whatever warned you spoiled their plan.
Kris: (rubbing his side absently) So either the bomb was premature or
there's someone else working here.
Georgie: (throwing up her hands) Great-- improve my day.
Kris: I need out of here NOW. (Kris swings his legs around and sits on the
edge of the bed. He smoothly yanks out his IV wincing, then moves to stand.)
Georgie: (rushing to his side) Are you nuts? You're going to get me fired!
Kris: (tersely) Since I don't think this is your primary gig anyway, do you
think I care? What you said about Staci was right on. I've been watching
her long enough to know the longer I'm here the more likely she's to leave
the island-- unprotected. Especially if Cassadine told her no.
Georgie: (trying to be reasonable) Look-- if you're going to check out
against medical advice at least do it with a plan.
Kris: I do have a plan. I'm going to put on my clothes. Go to the nearest
payphone and call the Cassadines and a cab. Then I'm out of here.
Georgie: (shaking her head) Great plan. Except they cut your clothes off
in the ER when you were brought in. There's a cop outside your door and I
think he might have something to say about you wandering the halls stark
naked looking for a phone, especially with one in your room.
Kris: (sarcastically) What do you suggest?
Georgie: I can't talk you into staying? (Kris shakes his head. Georgie
sighs) Jason Morgan is in the building. I'll send him to see you.
