GH2017.63 What Do We Know?
Noon the next day, the situation room of the PCPD. Commissioner Alex Garcia
and DA Keesha Garcia are there. Keesha sits in the back of the room a pad
in front of her just taking notes.
Alex: Let's start with the shooting at the Mall; it looks more straight
forward. Who had the Cassadine Driver?
Cop 1: (referring to his notes) I did. It appears that the Driver was
taken unaware. When we got there the radio was still playing, his window
was rolled down not shot out. There were a crossword puzzle and pen at his feet
Cop2: (muttering under his breath) I hate people who do crosswords in pen.
(Garcia gives him a quick glance that silences him.)
Cop1: He was slumped over the steering wheel and there was a small bullet
wound about the size of my pinkie behind his left ear. (He holds up the
reference finger) There were powder marks around the wound.
Alex: So a close, almost contact shot. (The officer nods)
Cop1: There's no exit wound. The Driver was found in the process of
covering the other crime scene. It appears he was the first down-- but not
by much.
Alex: (thinking aloud) Small caliber weapon probably silenced. Eliminating
the target's escape route,perhaps?
Cop1: Forensics has the car and is taking it apart for prints and trace
evidence. They're also doing ballistics on the bullet.
Alex: What about the dress shop?
Cop2 : (Rising from his seat and going to a bulletin board starts diagraming
what he thinks happened.) Shell casings were found here. (He starts putting
in push pins.) Three weapons. Both bodyguards were carrying .40's. Those
weapons were taken into custody by the PCPD for analysis. This guy didn't
get a shot off. (referring to John, a flagged push pin) The gun belonging
to Kris Windsor had been fired so his shells landed here. (He shows a trail
from roughly inside the store until right by the curb.) The other shells
belonged to a 9mm. Casings were found bunched here. (He indicates by a
cement column one store north of the dress shop) This angle works for
taking out the first bodyguard as well as the bullets we pulled out of the
wall in the dress shop. A blood trail starts here (He refers to a point
about 3 feet from the curb) and ends here. (About a foot into the parking lot.)
Alex: The trek of Kris Windsor. What about the car wreck?
Cop3: The car was found on it's top. Both sides of the vehicle were
crushed; the doors on both sides had foreign debris in the scrapes. On the
driver's side it appears to be cement from the wall, on the passenger side
pink paint from another vehicle. The passenger was not wearing his
seatbelt. He was evidently half thrown out the open window when the car
went airborne. The car fell on top of him, crushing him. Dead on the
scene. The driver was pinned in the car and had to be extracted. He was
life flighted to GH. He hasn't come out from under the anesthetic yet.
Two guns were found. A .22 with a silencer was in the car and a 9mm was
found in the field by where the car tried to fly. Ammo for both weapons was
found inside the car. The car has also been towed in for forensic
examination. Both men have been fingerprinted but didn't come up on the
FBI data base. We're running them internationally and waiting for a reply.
Alex: What do we know about the car?
Cop3: Rental car. It was rented at the Newark airport a week ago by a...
(Referring to his notes) Leslie S. Moore. He gave an address in Florida as
a home address. We're checking on the address and credit card.
Keesha: (looking up for the first time with a derisive laugh) You're
kidding, right? Less iS Moore. What an ironic choice of an alias for these
kings of overkill.
Alex: (closing the session) Keep me updated. I want to know when the
ballistics and follow up come through. The Mayor is treating this like the
press case it is. The DA's office is going to want your reports and
witnesses statements yesterday.
Keesha: That's true enough. Guys, you've given me a lot to go over here.
(The three officers leave.) What do you think, Alex?
Alex: I think we were fortunate. Windsor got a phone call from Cassadine
otherwise he might have been taken unaware. And if Lucky Spencer had
anything but that tank of his, it could have just as easily been their car
that flipped.
Keesha: Are you going to ticket Carida Jacks?
Alex: Not now. There appears to have been extenuating circumstances. But
I know Spencer. (rolling his eyes) I remember when he was teaching Georgie
and Lu how to drive. I never caught them but he had the kids all over-- not
just on "private property." Tell Ms. Jacks to get her license. If I catch
her on the road without one she'll be ticketed then-- and for now.
Wyndemere the game room. Georgie, Stefan, Nik, Lucky and Jason are present.
Georgie: The guy was in and out and not making too much sense. I think
he's going to make it. He was muttering in Russian. The PCPD has guards
all over. Nobody is going to get next to the guy.
Stefan: Good work, Georgie. Where is Jerry?
Georgie: He wants to spend some time with Cari. This scared the hell out
of him.
Lucky: Him! Scared the hell out of me! But Damn that kid is good. Once
she quit worrying about getting a ticket; she nailed them.
Nik: I think you were just living up to your name...again.
Stefan: (returning to the topic) Russian... we need pictures of both men,
Georgie. Our people at the foundation office may be of assistance in
identifying them.
Georgie: (looking at her watch) I should be able to do that. I have to be
at work at three.
Nik: I don't like you exposing yourself this way.
Georgie: Oh PLEASE! Let's not start that again.
Jason: (interjecting) General Hospital might not be the fortress you have
here. But the security's been tightened. It seems that any family member
that is not with ELQ works at the hospital. Georgie has plenty of back up
when she's there. The cops are giving my security some hassles. But all
the people I've placed there are legal; so they can just keep fishing.
Georgie: I think we should bring AR in on this.
Jason: (shaking his head) No way-- he's a cop in training.
Georgie: (reminding) So am I. I talked to him last night. He was doing
the barricades at the apartment building. He heard some of the arson guys
talking. Tossing ideas back and forth. Looks like the blast originated in
apartment 226. (All but Jason fall grimly silent)
Jason: What's that got to do with anything?
Georgie: Well if you had been over to visit your cousin Brooke you'd know.
I used to live in apartment 326.
Nik: (quickly looking through the records on his computer.) That apartment
was vacant. The leasing agent had been showing it. I'll speak with her,
see if she remembers anything. (Giving in) Georgie, it would be helpful to
have those pictures to show her.
Georgie: (grinning) Yeah, I'll get them today. I'll hand off to one of
Jason's guys. I arranged to be on the surgical floor so I'll be able to
check in on Kris too.
Nik: I want to know as soon as he can be moved. He should be on the island.
Jason: He's got cops all around him too. I don't think they've figured out
yet if he's done anything chargeable.
Nik: Staci has already made a point of saying she wants to see him. She
would be more likely to stick around the island if he were here where she
could keep an eye on him.
Lucky: Gee, I wonder where she gets that possessive streak from?
Nik: (ignoring his brother's barb)That reminds me...Where's Gina?
Jason: Robin talked her into staying with us. Gina is just as
...intractable about going into the hospital as the rest of them. This way
all the people that need to get to the hospital are being guarded. (Nik
nods unhappily.) I talked to my people watching the Ashton's. Nothing out
of the ordinary. Think these bullets were meant for you.
Stefan: We were counting on them not finding out until after the ship
docked. That was a miscalculation.
Lucky: Who knew?
Georgie: There's really no way of telling. There was a party the night
before last; a lot of people were here. Someone may have overheard
something they weren't supposed to. (Looking again at her watch) I need to
get going. I have scrubs at the hospital but I need to go shopping for
everything else.
Nik: (decisively) Tell Maxie what you need. She called this morning to sign
on as tutor to Stone and Staci. She'll bring whatever you need here.
Georgie: (rising) I'm not staying here, Nik. Jerry needs me at the
warehouse. He wants one of us with Cari at all times.
Lucky: Can you give me a lift back to town? My car is in the body shop.
(Whining for effect) Do you know how hard it is to match that color?
Georgie: (unsympathetically) Maybe it's time for a change?
Lucky: Bite your tongue, woman. I'll be moving around. If you need me, I
still have Kris's cell phone. I figure he doesn't need it right now.
(Lucky and Georgie leave)
Jason: (also rising) Dylan and I will be taking apart the shipping
department of ELQ this afternoon. I can be reached there or at home. I
want to find that leak and plug it. Stefan, How sure are you that this is
Russian mafia?
Stefan: Until we have the pictures, nothing is sure. But there are more
coincidences than I would like.
Jason: I can work that angle too. If they connected to the Americanized
branch we may have some leverage. How much are you telling the cops?
Nik: What they need to hear. I'm sure they will return the favor and only
tell us what they want us to know.
Jason: (grimly) As soon as they make the Russian connection, the feds are
going to be down on this. They'll pull it right out from under Garcia. And
they won't stop with this little investigation. This will be their excuse
to come after both of us. (Jason leaves.)
Stefan: Have you heard from Brooke?
Nik: (nods briefly) She called late last night after her show. She knows
that everyone is okay for now. The bodyguard that Jason assigned is
sticking close. I still don't like it. She should be here.
Stefan: Here is where everything is happening. Perhaps she is safer where
she is. Like Lucky, she is moving around.
Nik: Yes, but unlike Lucky she announces her presence in advance. How else
could they sell tickets?
Stefan: Jason is right. So far we have been the targets. Drawing
attention to Brooke only increases her danger.
Nik: We didn't have any notice this time. I don't think that we'll have
any in the future either.
I don't like it. I don't like it at all.
