GH2017.56 Old Flames
The apartment, it is about 7pm. Cari is making dinner. The aroma of the
cooking food wakes Lu who has been asleep for hours.
Lu: (panicked and in a hurry) Who turned off my alarm clock? I was
supposed to be at the club three hours ago!
Cari: Lucky turned it off when he decided to give you the night off. He
said it was one thing for you to be supervising the warehouse and another to
be the labor on the project and working at the club.
Dylan: I think he's going to give you the week off. You can go back to
work when you move back to the island.
Lu: (annoyed) What in the seven levels of Hell are you still doing here?
Dylan: ( righteously folding his hands together on top of the counter) I was
invited for dinner. Cari was showing me all the things she had purchased
for my condo. (Cari shrugs ruefully) Besides I have an offer for you.
Since you are on a time crunch with the warehouse and it is a weekend. How
about I help you out? I can shove furniture around with the best of them
and I wield a wicked paint brush.
Lu: It would serve you right if I took you up on it!
Dylan : It's a legitimate offer. The only payment is this wonderful dinner
(he grins flirtatiously at Cari)
Cari: What a shameless man! Lu, I think you should put him to work.
An Air strip in Switzerland. As is her custom Georgie is sound asleep in
the back of the plane. Quickly penning a note, Jerry takes the discs with
all the banking information they have gathered and leaves the plane. Within
half an hour he arrives at a familiar villa where the light is on the porch
as well as a candle in the window. Knocking only once the door opens and a
trim dark haired woman throws herself into his arms.
Jerry: ( hugging her close and giving her a passionate kiss.) Hey you!
Cassidy: Hey yourself. Where's your partner?
Jerry: Sleeping back on the plane. She has a touch of insomnia. I thought
I'd let her sleep when she could. (Giving her back a quick rub as he sets
her back on the ground) What have you been doing with yourself?
Cassidy: Well you know that Stefan sent me a puzzle to work on? (Jerry
nods.) I'm still working on identifying all the players and doing what I do
best.
Jerry: (grinning) Tracking the money. I brought these to you. ( He offers
her the discs)
Cassidy: Computer Discs! How sweet-- most of my dates bring me flowers.
Jerry: It's the banking records for the related transactions through the
Banking Centre. (Cassidy goes to the computer inserts the disc and sees
while the transactions are unchanged there is a translation on all the text
portions of the disc.)
Cassidy: (frowning) You've had someone already look at these.
Jerry: Yeah, Georgie did some password busting and word translations. She
was looking for people and places. WSB always seems to pair me with the
techno nerds.
Cassidy: That is because you refuse to learn! And I don't think you were
too sorry to have me as a partner once upon a time. Although I don't speak
Arabic. This is nice, very nice. ( She starts to focus on the information.)
Jerry: ( casually) So, Are you dating anyone?
Cassidy: (Looking up from the computer and laughing) You ask me that every
time you come by. Yeah, I date. Nobody serious. How about you?
Jerry: Always hated having dinner alone.
Cassidy: Exactly. When you called to tell me you were coming, I cooked.
Made enough for three. I even picked you up some oysters and mixed up my
special 'take the lining off the roof of your mouth' spicy sauce to go with
them.
Jerry: (generously) Well I'll eat Georgie's oysters too. She doesn't like them.
Cassidy: (teasing) I guess she's not the perfect partner afterall. I was
looking forward to meeting her. Cari said she made things a lot easier for
her in Port Charles. Finding her a place to stay, arranging to have her get
driving lessons. (Jerry face grows concerned)
Jerry: You know, Georgie has told me stories about that guy. I don't know
if it was such a good idea.
Cassidy:(smiling reassuringly) I know him. Or at least we were buds a
million years ago. He's a good guy, Jer. And Lucky and my father are thick
as thieves. Whoops-- maybe that wasn't a good analogy.
Jerry: I think I know all your secrets now. Although I don't know if I'll
ever figure out how your mind works.
Cassidy: ( leading him into the dining room where the table is already set
and the aromas of the kitchen cause mouths to start watering) That's cause
you are not a "techno nerd!" So are you taking good care of my baby?
Jerry: She'd just arrived and Georgie and I had to take off. Georgie has
her roommates keeping an eye on her. And Stefan, I'm sure, knows every move
she makes.
Cassidy: How are you? Is your arm okay?
Jerry: Yeah, I'm fine. There's a scar but you know me-- got to have those
conversation starters for the ladies. I could still bench press you a few
times.
Cassidy: Was there a compliment in there somewhere?
Jerry: You're gorgeous, and you know it, Luv. I should wash up?
Cassidy: (nodding) You know where everything is. Dinner will be on the
table when you get done.
Jerry: Then I'll be quick.
Cassidy: I've always appreciated your timing.
At a huge warehouse style membership only store. Lu refers to a list while
Dylan pushes an oversized cart.
Dylan: This is NOT what came to mind when you said you had to go grocery
shopping. How did you get these guys to open up after hours for you?
Forget that last-- what a stupid question!
Are you planning on inviting the entire census of Port Charles to an open
house or something?
Lu: Not exactly. Daddy told me to stock the warehouse as if for a siege.
Six months supplies of everything. Mrs. Lansbury dictated the list to me
and then Cari went over it to add anything special that she wanted. I'm
glad Lucky let us borrow his truck.
Dylan: You're going to have to have another truck anyway as much stuff as
you are buying. I don't think that Lucky will miss his truck; he was acting
like a pasha driving off with Cari in that Caddy.
Lu: Wait until summer when he takes the top down. Then they'll look like an
entry in a parade. But she's great; isn't she? She could probably pass her
driver's test tomorrow but they have so much fun together. It really
doesn't surprise me, what with Mike and all. Mike was always there for
Lucky after our father died. Now Lucky can return the favor by mentoring
his granddaughter.
Dylan: (surprised) What?
Lu: I thought you knew? I don't think I have ever met Cari's mother in
person, you know-- at least not so I remember. But she was always sending
letters and photos when I was growing up. Mike talks about her all the time
but only with family.
Dylan: But Brooke told me that Cari was some Cassadine cousin.
Lu: Mike was married to a relative of the Cassadine and THAT he doesn't
talk about. Evidently she was as wacked as Nik's grandmother. I think this
cart is full. Could you get another one?
Dylan: You're doing this on purpose; aren't you? Growing up with Ned's
five girls, you know my worst nightmare is 'shopping until I drop'.
Lu: You did take your vitamins this morning; didn't you?
Back in Switzerland Jerry and Cassidy are enjoying their dinner and the
conversation turns to another.
Jerry: I saw Billy in Tunisia. He was working on a story. Just got fired
as a matter of fact.
Cassidy: (concerned) How is he? Ever since he graduated, the pictures
stopped coming. I've resorted to doing name searches on the net to find
the articles he has been writing.
Jerry: (proudly) His editor will be kicking himself for firing him. Somehow
he's stumbled into the same thing we're working on. Could be Pulitzer material.
Cassidy: Could be dangerous.
Jerry: I clued him in that the story will be moving to Port Charles so
maybe I can keep an eye on him. Finally, both him and Cari in one place.
Should be fun to watch. Billy has been really good about letting me be a
part of his life after all these years.
Cassidy: (throwing her napkin on the table) You shouldn't have to be
grateful for that. You should have let me meet that witch years ago. I
still can't believe the way she hurt you and Billy. He knew something was
up long before I slapped some sense into her. That was why he ran away in
the first place! And she wasn't going to tell you!
Jerry: It was a long time ago, Luv. I may never be able to figure how your
mind works but I know Miranda's-- running and hiding is automatic to her.
Cassidy: You always make excuses for her.
Jerry: I have to, Luv. She's Billy's mum and he won't hear a word against
her. Whatever you and I think, even what he thinks, just bite your tongue
around him.
Cassidy: Well then you had better tell Cari that when you get back. She's
always known she has a big brother. And she's very angry that Miranda kept
them apart.
Jerry: I'll talk to her. But why isn't she mad at me? I went along with
it all those years ago.
Cassidy: Honey, she knows what a great Dad you've been. She knows just
what Billy missed.
Jerry: Some great Dad! I'm scared to death now that I'm going to be doing
this full time. And I shouldn't be; she's grown now.
Cassidy: (leaning in on the table as if conveying a great secret) Then I
shouldn't tell you the horror stories about the things she has gotten into
within the last year? The headmaster heaved a sigh of relief when I told
him that she didn't need any polishing and I was pulling her out of school.
Jerry : (shaking his head) I don't want to know. Just tell me how to keep
her out of trouble.
Cassidy: Keep her busy. I can't believe the things she's doing already.
Telling her to find a place for you two to live was genius. Cari's very
excited. Lu has really made her a part of the project. Which reminds me .
. . compliment the kitchens when you get back.
Jerry: (totally bewildered) The kitchens? This condo has more than one?
Cassidy: (laughing) No, you nut. Your daughter designed ALL of the kitchens
in this warehouse. The colors, tile, cabinets-- the works. And now she is
finishing all of them with the dishes, crystal, pots and pans.
Jerry: Wow! I didn't know. I mean, I knew she was helping Lu but she
didn't tell me she was doing so much.
Cassidy: (rising to stand beside him) Thing is-- as soon as you get back,
the project is over, and then lover, you are going to have to find her
something else to do. (Leaning over, she gives him a quick kiss before
starting to clear the table )
Jerry: (rising also) Wait a minute-- you can't say something like that and
then walk away! What am I supposed to do?
Cassidy: You'll think of something. You always do.
The warehouse store parking lot. The back of the truck is loaded with
items. Lu stands in the bed of the truck stacking more packages on top.
Dylan: Haven't you ever heard of catalogues? You know, call them up on
the phone and they send everything out to you? (He hands her another bag
that Lu wedges in) And how high are you planning to stack that stuff? You
can't see out the rear view window now!
Lu: Will you quit your griping? There are a tarp and rope in the truck.
We're almost done.
Dylan: Right! We still have to unload all this at the warehouse. (He
looks up into her grinning face) I asked for this; didn't I?
Lu: You surely did. And it has been a lot easier even with all your
moaning. Do you want me do drive or are you going to?
Dylan: (holding his hands out for the keys) Thanks, I've seen your driving.
Lu: (insulted) I'm a very good driver!
Dylan: But definitely not a cautious one. Come here. (Putting his hands on
her waist he lifts her down and then closes the tailgate.) Now where is
that tarp?
The airstrip. Jerry enters the plane and sees a slightly irked Georgie wide
awake and ready to tear.
Jerry: Good, you're awake. Cassidy had Cari's stuff all boxed up. Want to
give me a hand?
Georgie: Oh I'd like to give you a hand all right! I can't believe you let
me sleep.
Jerry: Too many nightmares lately, Darlin'. You needed the sleep. Things
will be happening back in Port Charles. You need to be on your game.
Georgie: You are beginning to sound like a Daddy rather than a partner.
Jerry: Sorry-- just spent the last few hours getting lessons in parenthood
from Cassidy. It might be seeping through. By the way, can you think of
anything that could keep Cari busy once we get back?
Georgie: I'll think on it and let you know. So did you take the discs to
the computer expert you know?
Jerry: Yeah, I took them to Cassidy. The woman is a wonder with a
computer. And she has worked for a banking software company for years. If
anyone can pull them apart, she can. Don't be mad; she and I had a lot to
talk about. Cassidy made you dinner to go though.
Georgie: I would have liked to meet her considering I am getting so tight
with her daughter!
Jerry: I'm trying to talk her into visiting Port Charles.
Georgie: Your timing sucks then.
Jerry: Oh Cassidy is handy to have around. She was my first partner in the
WSB after I got done with my training officer. That's the reason that
Frisco didn't put up a fuss when I told him I was bringing the discs to her.
He'd love to lure her back. She gave up field work when she got pregnant
with Cari. Have you ever seen the computer facilities of the WSB? I've
seen foreign jails that are nicer! She decided after a quick tour to take
her talents private.
Georgie; ( shuddering) I spent a summer in the WSB language lab doing
translations. Daddy was posted to headquarters. After the summer was over,
I told him that if he ever did that to me again I was turning him in for
child abuse. Okay-- you are forgiven this time . . . but I want to meet her.
Jerry: Well, I want to see my kid so let's get this stuff loaded and then
we're back to Port Charles!
