GH2017.50 Precision Moves
Cari: Why are we in the middle of some farmer's field?
Lucky: You're the one that's driving, babe.
Cari: And you are the one navigating! I'm not taking the heat for this if
the cops show up.
Lucky: Think of it as compulsories in figure skating.
Cari: I thought they got rid of those things?
Lucky: Big mistake. Ruined the sport . . . been sloppy ever since.
Cari: And you're such a neatnik.
Lucky: Watch you mouth. There're certain sports where precision counts . . . figure skating, sharpshooting-- driving the way I teach it. Okay, this is
what I want you to do . . .
The warehouse: Stefan is on the phone in the limo when Lu pulls up. A semi
truck is backed up to the building and workers are swarming like bees around
the hive unloading windows and installing them. Scaffolding has been
erected to reach the higher floors. The face of the building has a kind of
hopscotch appearance where there are tinted windows, missing windows, and
the old, broken and dirty windows that wait to be replaced.
Lu: I didn't know the windows would be tinted.
Stefan: They appear clear from the inside. This way no one will be able to
look in with a telescope.
Lu: Daddy, I thought you only looked at the stars with your telescope?
Stefan: Very amusing, Angel. What do you have there? (Pointing to the
large cylinder in Lu's hands.)
Lu: Preliminary plans Greg drew up. He says the living room I planned is
not a living room but a basketball court.
Stefan: It is a lot of hardwood floors.
Lu: Yes, but with a matte finish not glossy!
Stefan: You don't have to convince me. Roll them out; let me see. ( Lu
rolls out the plans in the back of the limo. The bottom is a heavy paper
while each sheet that goes over is a transparency with the various systems
on each one: framing. heating, electrical, plumbing) There seems to be a
few holes in this.
Lu: Brooke and Cari are still working on the baths and kitchens. Cari had
a driving lesson. (Stefan winces) And Brooke was still roughing out the
bathroom designs . . . she was about half done but I am sure she will mess
them all up and start all over a few times.
Stefan: Sounds time consuming.
Lu: It's amazingly easy. It's all done with software and fixture catalogues.
Stefan:( referring to the plans) I need to keep this overnight. I'll be
developing the security schematic with one of my people. That particular
transparency will not go to the city.
Lu: Can you do it without the kitchen and baths?
Stefan: ( Already tracing his ideas on the top transparency) Yes, not a
problem. Angel, I want you to consider making this building self
sufficient. A closed system so to speak.
Lu: Why? That seems like even more complications.
Stefan: There's going to be trouble. I think sooner than later. Carida's
relation to the Cassadine is not known to many. She is safer away from the
family but just in case-- her home has to be secure. You need to think
about moving back to the island also.
Lu: Daddy, you are really nervous about this! What is going on? Brooke
said that Nik had gone neanderthal all of a sudden about her going on tour.
Stefan: I've told your brother it is best that Brooke goes. A little
distance would be safer for her. Because we have all grown close to her,
she is a target that would strike at both the Quartermaines and Cassadine.
Lu: (Getting scared) This isn't like you. Not like you at all. When
there's been danger in the past you gathered everyone together- circled the
wagons? Why is this different?
Stefan: (Gathering her close, he hugs her firmly kissing the top of her
head) In one way it is not different. The heart of the Cassadine, as
Brooke would call them, will be on the island. If anything happened to your
mother, Staci or you, your brothers and I would go insane. But if we can't
help being targets there are people who can. For their safety, their ties
to us must be obscured and they must be hard to get to.
Lu: (Pressed against his coat) That is why you agreed to this. Why you have
been so adamant that nothing in this building be tied to the Cassadine name?
I thought it was my idea.
Stefan: And a very good one, Angel. I wouldn't have thought of this. As
soon as you brought it to me though, I saw the possibilities. You told me
yourself. This area is within minutes of the island and the security force
there. Brooke's tour starts just before the most likely time of danger.
When she goes on tour, I want you to move back to the island. Georgie and
Jerry should be back by then. Jerry knows of the danger. He will keep
Carida and Georgie safe.
Lu:( laughing and crying) God, Georgie! She'll think the Cassadine are
butting their noses in again. There is going to be another fight!
Stefan: (Ruefully shaking his head) I can't be the one to convince her nor
can Nikolas. That alone would draw attention to her. Georgie is seldom
quiet in her arguments. The one she had with Nikolas before she left on
vacation could be heard all over the island.
Lu: ( pulling back with a giggle, wiping her eyes) Sometimes, I think
Georgie scares you.
Stefan: The three of you scare me: you, Georgie and Brooke. You all think
you are invincible and are too damn smart for your own good. Now are you
going to fight me on this?
Lu: Honestly Daddy, yeah I probably will. But not today, you've given me
too much to think about. Okay-- change in plan. Daddy, you are in charge
of everything that goes on the schematic that the city isn't going to know
about: the security, the surveillance and the moat with alligators.
Stefan: You joke, little girl, but the only reason you don't have a moat
and alligators is that they don't do well in New York winters! Will you
make arrangements for me to see Brooke and Carida? They also need to be
informed.
Lu: Can I borrow your phone? ( Stefan hands it over and Lu quickly dials)
Lucky? ... Can I talk to Cari? .... well I figured she would be busy if
she was still with you.... Just ask her if she can cook dinner for Stefan
and Mom tonight, sort of a payback for her welcome dinner....yes, I remember
what a fun time you had that's why you're not invited!... okay great. What
time? I'll let everyone know. Daddy-- 6pm tonight. ( Dialing quickly)
Brooke? ... Yeah, that's great! Look we need to have an apartment meeting .
. . Cari is cooking . . . Oh, so now you'll be there. ( She laughs) . . .
We're having guest speakers; My mom and dad will be there . . . Okay. Plan
for dinner at 6pm. Lucky said that he and Cari would be home within the
hour. They're at the airport for some reason. I'll see ya soon. ( She
hangs up the phone and turns back to Stefan) Everything is set for 6pm. I
have to go into work after dinner and Brooke has a couple of sets to do
also. You'll have two hours to convince us.
Stefan: More than enough time. (He looks over at the building that is
quickly changing in appearance with every window) Your Taj Mahal is taking
shape, Leslie lu. I'll make some calls about the elevator and heating system.
Lu: I'll have the details for the plans tomorrow. I'll need help with city
hall the day after getting all the permits. I called the contractor Lucas
recommended. I meet with him tomorrow after the plans are done. He'll
break down the order things need to be done in and how long it will take.
Stefan: If crews have to work 24/7 so be it. Speed and precision are
needed here.
Lu: (nodding) I'll tell the contractor when he is making his plans.
Port Charles Airport.
Cari: Why are we in the middle of the Port Charles Airport?
Lucky: You're the one that's driving.
Cari: You're the one navigating. And we have had this conversation before!
Lucky: Just getting the score on your compulsories, babe. Wait here.
(Lucky goes into a hanger can comes up minutes later with a large envelope
getting in the car he hands it to Cari) Check it out.
Cari: What is this? (She starts to examine the pictures.) These look like
those alien crop circles.
Lucky: (lighting his cigar and laughing) Yeah, I know! Let me see.
(Pointing to a fan shape on the picture) Need a little work on the
bootlegger turn here, babe-- isn't really as sharp as I'd like. (Cari grabs
the pictures back and starts looking more carefully)
Cari: We made this?! Wait, I recognize this tree! This is so cool! I
thought you were insane with the directions you were giving me and that
idiot stop watch. This is so amazing! Can I send a copy to my mom?
Lucky: Teaches you to look at the big picture; doesn't it? Sure, there are
a few pictures in the envelope. (Critically) It would be more striking in
fall. There's just not enough contrast in snow to make a good picture.
Cari: I don't know; I kind of like the brown circles and lines against a
white background. I really appreciate this. I didn't know driving could be
so much fun!
Lucky: You're a natural, babe. Now we had better get going. You have a
dinner to plan and I have a club to run. Home James.
Cari: ( saluting) Aye, Sir!
The Apartment Dylan has stopped by to see Brooke.
Brooke: (shutting the door after letting her uncle in) I haven't decided if
I forgive you yet.
Dylan: Fine. I haven't decided if I forgive you yet either . . . I can't
believe you told Gram to have me sing.
Brooke: And you did great! I was the one that was stuck in an airplane
with Nikolas Cassadine. ( Dylan winces)
Dylan: Double whammy-- an airplane with the prince of darkness.
Brooke: Exactly. I see humiliation somewhere in your future.
Dylan: (wheedling) Come on, Rook; there is no need to be nasty. How about a
favor? I owe you one in the future at your total discretion.
Brooke: Two.
Dylan: You did make me sing.
Brooke: Okay-- one. But it is at my total discretion and there is no time
limit on the favor.
Dylan: ( going over to the computer) Done. What are you working on?
Brooke: The baths for the condos Lu is putting together.
Dylan: She came to the right woman.
Brooke: Listen Unc! If you want me to recommend you for one of these
condos you had better be nice to me!
Dylan: Fine! Gees where did your sense of humor go? Let me see what you
have. How many did you make?
Brooke: (quietly) twelve. (Dylan starts roaring with laughter) Well Lu
might not like all of them!
Dylan: ( flipping through the screens on the computer each different screen
a different bathroom. The placement of the fixtures often the same but the
feeling of each one decidedly different) Rook, I wasn't kidding when I said
Lu came to the right woman. These look like a pro did them. You can really
tell that the person that did it has been thinking about this for a while.
Brooke: Every tour when I am spending hours on the bus! Do you want me to
get you in with Lu?
Dylan: Yeah. Things are getting increasingly weird over at the Q's. Jason
came by today and was saying that Em and Tom are moving into the main house
so he can put armed security in the gatehouse. Do you know how many dogs Em
has? How many of these bathrooms do I get?
Brooke: Pick out three you like. How many dogs does Em have?
Dylan: Four. All of them purebred rescue.
Brooke: What's that?
Dylan: (absently) A network of people that work to place purebred abandoned
or abused dogs into good homes. It was probably the greyhound people that
got it started rescuing dogs from the track but it is all breeds now. These
three I like. (He marks his choices) Where is this warehouse anyway?
Brooke: (warning) It doesn't look like much now; here is the address.
Hopefully, I'll get to see the almost finished product before I go on the road.
Dylan: (whistling) That's fast.
Brooke: The girl has resources. Stefan decided to go along with the
project and has expedited things.
Dylan: This is a Cassadine project? I just got back from chasing my tail
on something Stefan sent me on.
Brooke: This is Lu's project. There is a difference. Actually Stefan and
Laura are coming to dinner tonight. Cari is cooking.
Dylan: Who's Cari?
Brooke: She's a friend of Georgie's; she is evidently some kind of cousin
to the Cassadines. Small world-- huh?
Dylan: (grimacing) Very Small. I should get going. There is evidently
going to be a big powwow at the Quartermaines too. It's got to be big if
Jason is coming. He only comes to the house to drop bombs and he's the one
that arranged the dinner.
Brooke: Well I wasn't invited. Should I be hurt?
Dylan: Grateful. I'll call you tonight we can exchange notes. I think the
timing of this sudden Cassadine dinner here is interesting.
Brooke: ( walking him to the door ) I'll be at the club later. Swing by.
Lu will be there too; you can talk more about the condo.
