GH2017.36 Truth
Very early the next morning at the apartment. Jerry and Cari are at the
door, it is opened by Georgie after a brief rap.
Georgie: (quietly, so not to wake the roommates ) Come on in. I have coffee
on. Cari, do you drink coffee? I have tea or chocolate if you would prefer?
Cari: Coffee is fine, but I might crash again after you guys leave.
Georgie: Let me show you the communications set up at least. (The three
look at the phone set up. She pulls out a notebook) I programmed the my
speed dial for you with numbers to Stefan and Alexis. Lu has then too but
you don't have to mess with her numbers. Your dad tells me you are close to
them? (She turns to the computer and turns pages in the notebook she has
made for Cari) Here are the directions for the software to access the
email. You will probably not be able to get hold of us but we will be
emailing you regularly from anonymous accounts. You need to pick your own
password. Not that Lu or Brooke would read your mail but I wouldn't say the
same of Stefan or Nik if they get a chance. For your own good you know. Oh
the third number on the speed dial is my father, Frisco Jones, over at WSB.
If you have an emergency, he can get hold of us.
(Turning the next page) I talked to my mom last night telling her I was
going on vacation. She is very excited to meet you and my step dad Mac goes
way back with your dad. There might be some blackmail material there. (
Jerry rolls his eyes) They are also good for free lunches while we are
gone. Lunch here at the apartment is iffy; Lu and Brooke have a tough time
dragging out before noon because of their schedules. If you find a house,
Mac can go over it for you to make sure it is structurally okay. Mom can
computer research the property for any problems. That should shave a few
thousand off the price of whatever you find.
(Turning the page) Here are the names of kids I know your age: Brad
Quartermaine- his mom is DA; we meet at a police picnic, great flag football
player. Anthony Roberts, my cousin, he is kind of a stick in the mud but
not bad looking and he knows everyone. In fact, he may suspect what I am
really doing so if you are going to make a slip, do it around him. Then
Stone and Staci who are living on the island right now. You'll probably get
to meet them today because I think Brooke plans on taking you over there
when she goes over to sit for her portrait.
Jerry: Gees Georgie. . . take a breath! Have you slept since we left last
night?
Georgie: Some. But I know that I can sleep on the plane . . . Something
about the sound of the engines puts me right out.
Jerry: If I had known that I would have been taking you up in the plane
every night.
Georgie: You are a sweet, impossible man. Cari, the notebook is self
explanatory. Use it if you need to. On the last page are the numbers for Lu
and Brooke. They will give them to you anyway but I just wanted to have
everything in one place. Here let me show you my room. (Jerry starts to
follow them) Jerry, why don't you finish your coffee; this is girl talk.
(Cari is silent until they reach the bedroom where she goes to sit on the bed)
Cari: What's up?
Georgie: I made an assumption about you and manipulated it to my advantage.
I want to apologize.
Cari: What are you talking about?
Georgie: Lu's dad and brother ticked me off. I know that they planned to
have you out on the island and I didn't want them to get their way, this
time. It is one of the reasons I set this up. I know you will have a good
time with Lu and Brooke but you have to have all the info to make your own
decision. Whatever you want to do will be fine with me.
Cari: They must have done something huge.
Georgie: Both of them are great guys, don't get me wrong. If I ever needed
help, I could go to them and they would help me in a heartbeat. But they
don't wait to be asked. They are both very old fashioned and treat women
like china dolls. You know: delicate, wrapped in cotton batting ... empty
headed. If you stay on the island you could have anything you want,
whenever you want. It would be at your disposal-- maybe before you even
realize you want it. Have Lu show you her sewing room on the island and
you'll see what I mean. Lu's brother Lucky also thinks he knows what is
best for everyone but he'll let a person screw up and then tell them how
they should do it next time.
Cari: And this is the guy you think would teach me how to drive?
Georgie: He is great for things like that. Doesn't raise his voice.
Doesn't seem to get stressed out. Just keeps puffing on a cigar. ( She
smiles at the memory) Mac would have gone insane before I got my license.
Lucky was sneaking around giving us lessons. By the time Mac found out; I
was ready to take my test. Less stress on everyone. My father paid to have
me sent to a chauffeur school after I got my license. So I learned all the
evasive techniques and stuff to do in an emergency but Daddy didn't realize
that was part of Lucky's driving course. If he teaches you how to drive;
you can drive anything, anywhere. ( Bringing herself back to the topic) Do
you think you will be staying at the apartment?
Cari: Whatever your reasons, I think that I'll have fun here at the apartment.
Georgie: Then you will need that notebook and you will need to keep your
wits. Because Stefan will try to talk you out of it and he can be so sweet.
Don't listen to his voice . . . and watch out for his eyes; he can be
mesmerizing. If you feel like you are getting sucked into something use Lu
or Laura for reinforcements. (Lightening up) You are welcome to borrow
anything in my closet if you think it will fit! Anything that I didn't want
to share I locked in the safe. Do you know how to use a pistol?
Cari: Yes, but I prefer a camera for shooting things.
Georgie: Okay then don't bother trying to break into the safe. My camera
is right here.
Cari: As if I would break into someone's safe!
Georgie: (Smiling) I would, but then I do it for a living!
Cari: You know I think we are going to be good friends. Take care of my
dad will you? I like him as he is . . . no more bullet holes.
Georgie: I'll do my best. ( She looks at her watch) Your dad and I are
going to have to get moving. If we are much later, we will end up being in
line for takeoff and I hate sitting around especially in a tincan with
recycled air. I'll say this for your old man. Traveling with him this time
will be first class. J&J private jet, a girl could get used to it. Not
only that but we have to allow time for Nik to try and talk me out of going.
Cari: You think he is going to show up here?
Georgie: No, at the airport. Any bets?
Cari: I don't really know him. My mom keeps in touch but Alexis and Laura
are the ones who came to see me when I was at school in Switzerland.
Nikolas Cassadine was a name on the bottem of Christmas and Birthday cards
normally accompanied by a healthy check.
Jerry: Is the coast clear? ( He wraps Cari in an embrace and kisses before
drawing back to tell her) You are only allowed to raise as much hell as you
can get out of. If your mother comes down on me for anything you do; I
swear you will be grounded until your wedding day.
Georgie: You just reminded me! Another thing to look out for Cari, Stefan
is making lists of favored suitors for all of his single relatives. If he
starts introducing you to men-- watch out!
Jerry: The driver is waiting, Georgie; we should get moving. Honey I'll
check in. No matter how much she is trying to scare you; Stefan will be
there if you need him.
Georgie: I'll try to detain Nik so that you won't have to deal with both of
them.
Jerry: When do you think you are going to see Nik? ( Georgie just shakes
her head)
Thirty minutes later at the airport. Jerry is giving Georgie a hand from
the car while the driver pulls the bags from the trunk.
Jerry: Are you sure you are up to this?
Georgie: It's a little late to be asking.
Jerry: I am asking.
Georgie: I would rather be fighting real monsters, Jerry.
As they make their way to where the private jets are berthed Georgie sees a
familiar face.
Georgie: (rolling her eyes) He is so predictable.
Jerry: What?
Nik: Hello Georgie, Jerry. It appears that your plane is having engine
trouble.
Georgie: How original.
Nik: Since I have business in Greece, I thought perhaps I could give you a
lift in the Cassadine Jet.
Jerry: ( squeezes Georgie's hand to silence her) That would be fine.
Wouldn't it, Georgie?
Georgie: Just great. Are we going to be able to leave before there is a line?
Nik: Of course. Let's board now. ( They board the plane and start taking
seats. Georgie is ignoring Nik. She asks the steward for a blanket and
then selecting the seat furthest from Nik seats herself and buckles in.)
Georgie: Jerry will you wake me in time to change?
Jerry: Sure Darlin'. Get some sleep.
Nik: She is going to sleep thru takeoff?
Jerry: Told me the sound of the engines put her to sleep. Could have used
that info a few days ago.
Nik: So... is Carida on her way to the island?
Jerry: Cari is staying with your sister and Brooke Ashton.
Nik: (Frowning) That is a change in plan.
Jerry: Didn't hear much, but Georgie thought your uncle was getting his
way too much and set it up.
Georgie: ( sleepily) You are a snitch, Jerry Jacks. But that reminds me,
can I use someone's phone? (Nik hands the phone over Georgie quickly dials a
familiar number) Cari? ...Good thing you didn't bet . . . Not only did he
show up but he also arranged to tag along . . . Yeah, be on your guard for
Greeks bearing gifts. ( She hangs up the phone and tosses it back to Nik.)
Nik: That would be Russians, Georgie.
Georgie: ( Sleepily and turning away from the two men.) Whatever.
The Apartment. Lu is tousled from sleep. Her feet are bare and she rubs
her eyes as she walks in to the light in the kitchen. Cari sits at the
table skimming a university catalogue as well as the notebook that Georgie
left her.
Lu: Was that the phone?
Cari: yeah. Georgie was calling from the plane. Nik arrived at the airport
as she predicted.
Lu: What do you have there?
Cari: Something that Georgie made for me. She said your father is going to
cause problems with me staying here. She wanted me to be prepared.
Lu: Wow. This is detailed. Well, Georgie isn't one for surprises. She
likes dotting the I's and crossing the T's. You'd think she had been raised
Cassadine instead of me.
Cari: Mom was always leery of being raised Cassadine which is why we kept a
friendly distance. Is it true your dad is making a list of guys you should
marry?
Lu: ( laughing) I haven't seen it yet. I know he made one for Nik. Nik is
actually dating someone on it!
Brooke: (dragging into the kitchen; tossing her hair out of her eyes) I
wouldn't call what we do dating, Lu. Thank you very much for spreading
rumors about me. Is there more coffee?
Lu: You can tell how thrilled she is. Did the phone wake you?
Brooke: Nah...the laughter. Why should you guys have all the fun? What
have you got here?
Cari: A phone book that Georgie made: emergency numbers, about house
hunting, the university. I just found a page with Doctors, lawyers and an
insurance agent
Brooke: No Indian Chief? You know, I am beginning to feel slighted. She
didn't make one for me.
Lu: You don't have to get around Nik or Daddy to live here.
Brooke: No, your father just wants me to have Nik's baby, preferably male.
Cari: Georgie told me I might need backup. I think, I am going to need
backup.
