GH2017.33 Opening Moves
Spoon island Stefan is coming from the docks with Jerry who has come to the
island under the guise of a chess match. Jason will be bringing the
children over later to visit with Stone while the adults plan the first
move against those that would use ELQ to spread terrorism. As they enter
Wyndemere they hear shouting coming from behind the closed door of the den,
only one female voice.
Jerry: What the Hell? That sounds like Georgie.
Stefan: Nikolas was in there reading when I walked to the docks to meet you.
Jerry: That sounds like her voice but what is she saying? I can't figure a
word of it-- sounds like Russian.
Stefan: (Listens and starts to blush) It is Russian and I have not heard
such foul language since I visited the dock workers in Minsk. She is very
fluent. More than Nikolas. ( Just then a loud male voice is heard)
Nik: English, Georgie! If you want me to understand what you are saying,
speak English.
Georgie:(screaming) I told you to stay out of my life. You don't control
me, you will never control me . . . DO YOU UNDERSTAND-- NO MAN
MAKES DECISIONS FOR ME. YOU CAN TAKE THAT TELEVISION
STATION AND THE BAR FIGHTS AND STICK THEM UP YOUR A. . . .
Nik: Georgie, put down that vase! It is a very expensive . . . ( sound of
china shattering) was a very expensive vase. ( Laura comes up and sees the
two men listening at the door to the battle going on within)
Laura: I wish I had a camera. ( Both men jump startled because of the
intensity with which they were listening. Just then there is the sound of
more breaking china and Nik finally swearing)
Nik: Damn it, Georgie that hurt! Stop it. ( Stefan opens the door. The
three from the hallway enter. Stefan reaches for Georgie's throwing arm as
both Jerry and Laura cry out)
Jerry and Laura: STEFAN, NO! ( Both Georgie and Stefan turn)
Laura: Don't touch her . . . (With a calming voice, she looks over to see
Nik blotting a cut over his eye from a flying plate. Georgie still holds
another plate but her arm is by her side) Georgie, please put the plate
down; you could put an eye out with that thing. You are not at the
Quartermaines; we do not throw things here. ( Georgie puts down the plate.
Laura moves in closer.)
Georgie: ( her voice growing more hysterical) Do you know what he is doing?
Do you know? I CAN'T BREATHE... Every time I turn around he is there. At
the club, at my apartment telling me what to do. ( She points at Nik) I
went to see Gina today and found out that he had called her about me. I
don't have a job at GH anymore because he had me pulled from the schedule.
I AM NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. I TAKE CARE OF MYSELF. I
ALWAYS HAVE. YOU DON'T OWN ME. (Georgie starts to cry but allows
Laura to get close and hold her; Laura starts rubbing her back in a soothing
motion. The men are silent)
Laura: shhh Its all right. It will be okay again. Just get it all out. I
know my son is an arrogant ass. He should never have called Gina. But you
know Gina would never tell him anything about you. And I know it was my
idiot husband and your friend Jerry that had you pulled from the schedule.
We both know that if you needed time off you would have taken it, right?
(Georgie nods into Laura's shoulder) I know how you are feeling, Baby;
everything is spun out of control, but that isn't Nik's fault. He is just
being a man . . . trying to fix things before he is asked. You should feel
sorry for me and Lu; we are surrounded by men that think they know what is
best for us.
Georgie: (muttering into Laura's shoulder) I know what is best for me.
Laura: yes you do. And Lu and I know what is best for us . . . Which is
why we ignore them when they are being so bossy. but you know that; come
on, let's go splash some water on your face. you're feeling better; I can
tell. ( Laura has her arm around Georgie as they leave)
Jerry: well, that was a close one! Stefan, I thought you were brighter
than that. As often as she has threatened to cut Nik for touching her,
trying to grab her was a wrong move, mate.
Stefan : Well, she appeared ready and able to brain my nephew.
Nik: She would have to find them first. Mother is right; I am an ass. I
hope my calling Gina won't stop Georgie from talking to her.
Jerry: Let the girl be. She'll do what she likes; I think she just told
you that. (The door bell rings)
Stefan: That must be Jason and the children to see Stone. (Stone comes
bounding down the stairs and pulls the door open without looking in the
security screen. Stefan winces) I suppose it is a sign of his comfort
level that he bounds around the house and ignores basic security measures.
(Jason joins the men while Stone starts regaling the children with stories
of the TV station.)
Jason: Stefan, Nik . . . Jacks. I figured you might be here for a chess
match. Nik, would you like a game of eight ball while the kids are
visiting? What happened to your eye?
Nik: It is a long storyand not worth repeating. Let's go to the game room.
It is soundproofed and because it is a recent addition there are no secret
passages for little ears to hear adult conversations.
The game room. A large room with the feel of an old-fashioned men's club.
There is a wall of books but the room is primarily for less productive
pursuits than reading. There is a pooltable, a bar, and behind the rich
walnut paneling of one wall is a large television set and stereo unit big
enough to feel like a mini theater. Unlike the furniture in the front study
the chairs and couches are big and overstuffed, designed for comfort before
style. The room is divided into conversation areas including a quiet space
where a chess board is already set up. On the wall behind the chess board
is a quilt that uses the colors and designs of the front room but gives it a
decidedly American interpretation. As the four men enter, Jerry is drawn to
the quilt.
Jerry: This is amazing. It looks like the front room but not at all cold
or formal. Whoever did this is an artist.
Laura: Thank you. ( She and Georgie enter) or should I say my daughter
would thank you. Lu has always been one for what she calls "accessories."
She made that back in high school. Her textiles' instructor entered it into
some competitions; it did rather well. She got an A on it.
Jerry: (amazed) A little girl made this?
Stefan: You've met her. At the club, the night we were playing chess
there. She is the manager there. Also, Georgie's roommate.
Georgie: I haven't introduced Jerry to my friends. ( she moves close to
Jerry who puts an arm around her neck drawing her in until he can easily
lean down to whisper in her ear)
Jerry: (whispering) Are you okay for this? ( Georgie nods. Jerry kisses
her on the temple and moves back to say in a normal voice) Well, should we
play some of these games or get down to business?
Jason: (Looking at the two women and Nik) Jacks, I don't care what kind of
cop Stefan thinks you are but the fewer people in on this the better.
Jerry: (Shaking his head at Stefan) You are losing it, old man. Are you
going put on the evening news at Georgie's television station next? (
Looking at Jason) Why don't you call me, Jerry? Jacks sounds so . . .
hostile the way you say it. You need to get up to speed. Stefan has
spilled who I am and Nik has guessed what Georgie is (Jason gives a
startled glance to Georgie) so the only person who is not in the know is you
and maybe Laura.
Laura: ( shrugging) Sorry Jason. I guess I know who the people are and I
can figure it has something to do with ELQ if you are here. ( Jason takes a
seat and indicates to Jerry to continue)
Jerry: While Georgie was seeing Gina; I was talking to my doctor. I am not
100% but it is my off arm anyway. We can be in Sabat tomorrow. Darlin', I
think that you would look amazing in a chador.
Georgie: (rising excitement in her voice) Then I am going?
Jerry: You know I don't speak Arabic; besides you have the time off work.
( Georgie grins)
Nik: Now wait a minute . . . ( Both Georgie and Jerry glare at him; he
throws up both hands in a surrendering motion) Never mind, I didn't say a word.
Georgie: ( reaching for her bag) Jerry told me he was coming here tonight
for a meeting after we went to our appointments at the hospital. I brought
the pictures taken when the tanker was in PC.
Jason: You knew that crap was on one of my ships and didn't tell me?!
Georgie: Sorry. We needed to know who was meeting it at the other end.
Jerry did try to call you. He was preserving my cover for as long as he
could. I guess it's blown to hell now.
Jerry : Just as long as nothing else is. Jason, why don't you take a look
at these and see if there is anyone you recognize. Dylan should look at
them too. Ahhh by the way, he doesn't need to know where you got those
pictures or about me and Georgie. I know you from your reputation but he
hasn't been alive long enough to have a rep yet. See if you can identify
the security because I don't think they belong to ELQ. One of those suckers
shot me and Georgie had to drag me off to hospital.
Stefan: (humming under his breath) Knew it wasn't a mugging.
Laura: Don't be smug.
Jerry: ( sorting through the photos) here is the cargo that was in the
hold. Georgie got some great shots of the labels. I figure a computer
junkie like yourself could track down the purchaser. ( Nik snatches a photo
of lab supplies)
Nik: These are from Yagi Pharmaceuticals. Jason, it appears they have not
only involved ELQ but also the Cassadine. Yagi has been one of my companies
for the last five years. This is beginning to feel . . .personal. ( All
fall silent)
