GH2017.24 Arresting Developments
The outback. Jerry newly sprung from the hospital and Georgie enter. Mac
is behind the bar harassing the bartender. A server starts to walk over
before noticing that it is Georgie. Smiling she waves her hand around the
restaurant and then goes back to the kitchen to pick up a order.
Georgie: One thing about your parents owning the place. You can sit
wherever you want. ( she grabs two menus and heads for her favorite table.)
Jerry: You have to put the order in as well?
Georgie: Only if they are busy.... It is a little early for dinner yet.
Jerry: Well it was too cold to stay out in the park. My old bones you know.
Georgie: you only have old bones when convenient. I'd say the bones are
as old as the rest of ya.
Jerry: Getting Lippy there little girl.
Georgie: ( grinning and leaning in to talk in a low voice as she observes
Mac approaching) you know the only reason I do it is cause I adore you...
(she bats her eyes at him in a louder voice she greets her step father) Hi
Mac. Look at what I found at the hospital. He says he knows you.
Mac: Jerry Jacks! How the hell are you? I haven't see you since your
wedding. ( Georgie looks at him with eyebrows raised)
Jerry: (wincing) I should have listened to you on that. It didn't last
long. Just long enough to put a strain in the friendship. I haven't seen
her in almost as long as you.
Mac: Well Miranda sends us Christmas cards but I haven't seen her in
awhile either. She knows better than to drop out of sight on me though.
After that stunt she pulled in Australia she knows I will hunt her down.
Jerry: I am sorry about that, Mate. It was what she wanted. I didn't even
have the whole story. She was playing everything close to the vest.
Mac: She still does. ( Georgie is looking on in fascination. She has found
out more dirt about her partner in the last few minutes than in all the
weeks they spent in Idaho) Georgie, Alex called they are executing that
search ( he looks at his watch) right about now. Hopefully they will have
the guy in jail before Robin gets back. ( Georgie has lost her appetite at
Mac's reference to Saunders)
Georgie: That is great. Maybe it will all be over soon. Look ,Jerry is
going to be spending sometime in town to do physical therapy and you two
have some catching up to do. Why don't I go buy some groceries for his
apartment and you two can talk. ( she rises putting back on her coat. She
puts her hand out to Jerry) He seems to like women with secrets so don't go
spilling all of mine okay Mac?
Jerry: ( catching Georgie's clue reaches for his wallet pulling out money)
Just like a woman, Mac you sure trained her well. Wait a minute, I can't
cook. what are you going to buy me?
Georgie: Be nice to me and I'll teach you (then giving the guy a break)
Microwave stuff I promise. I'll be a couple of hours I'm afraid. I am
going to run another errand too. Will you be alright?
Jerry : As long as Mac doesn't mind me taking up a table?
Mac: No problem; if it gets busy I'll put him to work. (Georgie leaves)
I shouldn't have mentioned the search. she is putting on a happy facade
but this is taking a toll on her.
Jerry: What is going on with that?
Saunders Residence: a number of uniformed personnel are there as well as
detectives. Anthony Roberts in his explorer's uniform has secured the
perimeter as the detective knocks on the door.
Det: Police department open up please.
Saunders: Is there a problem, officer?
Det: Are you Bruce Saunders? (Saunders nods) Mr Saunders we have a warrant
to search your house. ( the detective walks into the house and sees the
dining room off the entry.) Why don't we go over here so that you can
review the paperwork. Is anyone else home, Mr Saunders?
Saunders: No my wife is still at work. I just got home myself. What is
this all about? Should I call my attorney?
Det: Sir, all that information is in the warrant. It is your right to call
counsel if you like. it won't delay the search but they can be here to
watch the process. ( as the detective is talking to Saunders uniformed
officers have broken into search teams and have started on their designated
assignments)
Saunders: What are they doing? they can't go in there. (Saunders
attempts to follow a team that has entered his study his way is blocked by
the detective)
Det: Mr Saunders, the house, the outbuildings and your vehicles are all
included in the warrant. If you interfere with the search, you will be
restrained. Did you wish to call counsel?
Saunders: (who had paled at the mention of the outbuildings) I think I
had better. ( the detective moves out of hearing range but observes Mr
Saunders until the call is completed. The Detective conducts a thorough
search of the dining room and then leaves a uniformed officer with Mr Saunders.)
At the police firing range Georgie Jones is putting on ear and eye
protection as she moves to the firing line. focusing on the target she
brings up the 9mm that seems too big for her hands and smoothly begins
firing off rounds stopping only when the clip is empty and she has to
reload. Alejandro Garcia draws her attention. She removes the ear protection
Garcia: I think that you will need to do another target, this is not one I
could give to Mac. In fact I think he would be very concerned if he saw it.
Georgie: What do you mean? (Alex flips a switch that brings the target, a
silhouette of a man , forward. As the target nears it is revealed exactly
what Alex meant. there is a close grouping of bullet holes in the groin
area.) So you want me to do another sheet for Mac.
Garcia: I think that would be best. I know he checks the sign in roster to
make sure you practice and he would question me if he did not receive the
target. I think he uses them to brag about his girls. You and Maxie both.
This would raise some questions. Perhaps I should send it to him after all.
Georgie: No. No, I have someone else I think should see it instead. (she
puts back on the ear muffs after sending a new target to the end of the
range. Again she begins to fire this time closely grouping her shots to the
center of the target.)
Garcia: You are good. Better than some people I have on the force. Are
you sure you don't want to be a cop?
Georgie: I'm better at nursing . I don't think I could deal with people
like Saunders on a daily basis. You called Mac... why aren't you out at the
search?
Garcia: The best people are on this, Georgie. No one will say that there
was a vendetta or a coverup. Everything above board. And when this comes
to trial I want to be able to sit next to your family as a friend rather
than wait out in the hall as a witness.
Georgie: ( reaching out a hand to Garcia who takes it and squeezes gently)
Thank you. Thank you for believing me.
Garcia: It is easy to believe you, Georgie. And Anna. I think it is time
that there was closure. (his beeper goes off and he looks at the number) I
have to return this call so let me get the target for Mac. (He flips the
switch and waits for the target.) Let the system take this guy down for
you. ( Georgie finishes packing away her pistol in its case and folds the
other target neatly into the case.)
Georgie: I will; I promise. I left Mac and a friend back at the outback.
I should get back. I would appreciate if you didn't let Mac know about the
other. You are right he would be concerned and I am okay... really.
Garcia: Then I will see on the range and in court. (he exits the firing
range. Georgie takes a moment to sit down on the bench behind the firing
line her head leaning back against a cinderblock wall. She bites her lip
as she fights to maintain her composure. After a brief time she rises
gathering her things and leaves also.)
Back at the Saunders residence: Camera crews have set up outside the
perimeter being watched by Anthony Roberts and the rest of his explorer
crew. A city car makes its way slowly to the driveway. Anthony recognizes
the DA and waves her through the barrier. Keesha Garcia hangs her
identification on her jacket and waits in the entry way for the detective in
charge.
Det: Ms Garcia, we have the evidence bagged and tagged in the kitchen.
Other than the crew that is tearing apart his car most of the officers have
gone back to the station. The computer was taken back to the station by the
techno nerds to be ripped apart
Keesha: Where is Saunders?
Det: He and his lawyer are in the downstairs bathroom talking. (shrugging
his shoulders) It was the most private place.
Keesha: Did you ask him any questions?
Det: No and either did any of the others. I think it has got the perp and
his lawyer freaked.
Keesha: Good. Let's see what we have. (together they walk into the
kitchen where the evidence officer like a mother hen is watching everything.
Keesha puts on gloves so that she may examine the evidence)
Det: Until we get the computer broken down this seems to be the best piece
of evidence. ( he hands her the shoebox) It was found out in the
woodworking shed behind some paints. (Keesha opens the box and sees
hundreds of candids of small children) Note that each one has markings in
the same hand on the back. it matches as far as I can tell the writing of
Saunders. would have to have a sample and an expert to verify.
Keesha: so it appears that in addition to the charges coming out of the
statements of the two victims we know of we have some additional child
pornography. Anything else.
Det: Some toys we confiscated since the Saunders don't have any kids. Some
other pictures that were secreted around the house. Probably not enough for
additional charges but supports the stuff we already have. Also found a
safe deposit box key. The key would be covered in the warrant but we'll
need another or consent to get into the box.
Keesha: Damn. ( turning to the evidence officer) Gary, would you call the
office talk to someone in sex crimes fill them in on the situation. I want
to have a warrant signed and ready for when the bank opens in the morning.
I doubt that we will get consent. If Saunders doesn't know his goose is
cooked then his lawyer surely does. Lets get them out of the bathroom.
where should we talk?
Det : the dining room is good. So Keesha so you want to be the good cop or
the bad cop?
Keesha: ( laughing) Lets just both be hard nosed! You read him his rights
and we'll see how it goes.
The Dining room: Keesha is seated at the head of the table a notepad and a
tape recorder in front of her. the door to the Kitchen is open so Gary can
hear the coming conversation. Keesha remains seated as Saunders and his
attorney enter and take seats.
Keesha: Bill , how are you? I didn't know you did criminal work.
Lawyer: Not normally but Bruce is a friend through church. How are you Keesha?
Keesha: (getting down to business) Better than your client. things seem a
bit cut and dried at this point. I'll be taping this interview. (she
turns on the recorder calling off the names of those present) Detective?
(the detective begins to read Saunders his rights as guaranteed by the
Miranda decision. Asking if he understands after each right) Mr Saunders in
the course of investigating the attack on you we came across some disturbing
allegations. Allegations of criminal behavior dating back at least 15
years. Prior to requesting the warrant on your home I listened to the tapes
of the females that are accusing you and found them to be credible. I have
reviewed the physical evidence that was collected by the hospital and find
it to be consistent with a crime having been committed....
Lawyer: Then why are we here Keesha.
Keesha: Time, Bill. Time. Something your client has precious little of.
without all the evidence that was collected here today I still have enough
evidence and charges to go to court and your client will serve , not be
sentenced but serve, at least forty years. I have been authorized by the
known victims and their family to accept a plea bargain of 40 years today on
this list of charges (she hands Saunders and his attorney a laundry list of
charges) on condition that 1) Saunders list and be polygraphed on all his
criminal sexual activity 2) understand that omission of any victim would
result in full prosecution of that offense 3) know that the list of victims
that he develops while not resulting in more time will serve as an admission
and that the victims may sue him in civil court. 4) to the degree that he
is able; he is responsible for the reasonable treatment costs of his
victims. 5) the report developed through his admission and the polygaph
will follow him to prison and be available to his therapist if he should
seek help for his problem and finally 6) Drop all charges against Stone
Corinthos.
Lawyer: Keesha this is an impossible decision to make-- especially like this.
Keesha: Mr Saunders, Bill. I understand your need to think things through,
but let me make this clear to you. The longer you take; the more victims I
identify without you. The more I identify; the more have to sign off on
this plea agreement. The longer you take the less likely you are to get
such a good deal. GARY.. (Gary comes to the dining room door) May I have
the shoe box please? (Saunders blanches as Keesha overturns the pictures on
to the dining room table) Mr Saunders I think there are at least 40
different children in these pictures. That works out to a year or less for
each child whose life you permanently damaged. I understand that you may be
concerned about being an extremely old man when you get out of prison but my
concern is the children that YOU will not damage by the mere fact of your
being locked up. Detective, did you have anything to add? (Detective
shrugs) Then Mr Saunders you are under arrest. My offer is good until
10am tomorrow after that? ( Keesha shrugs her shoulders and turns off the
recorder.)
