CHAPTER SIX: GREAT EXPECTATIONS

Emily and Tom are escorted to their table at the PC Grille. After they are seated, Tom looks at Emily and smiles, "How do you feel?"

Emily shrugs, "Okay, I guess. Better than earlier."

"Morning sickness?"

"Yeah." Emily keeps glancing over her shoulder.

Tom notices, "Em, what's wrong?"

"Old habits die hard." She takes a sip of water, "I've come to a decision."

Tom is on the edge of his seat, "Well? Well?"

Emily sits back to make sure she phrases herself correctly. "I tried to think of every angle, Tom, everyone's feelings: mine, Lucky's, yours and
this baby's."

Tom sits back, certain that she's turning him down. He waits in silence as she continues.

"This baby has the right to have two parents that will love him or her unconditionally and be 100% supportive. Lucky can do that. But the baby also deserves parents that will be there for him. I've had to change my whole way of thinking because of this pregnancy. I realize now that I can't take off at a moment's notice like I used to. Lucky has lived his whole life for the moment.
For the first decade of his life, his parents shuffled him around. No stability.
I won't raise my child like that.

"Tom, you can give my child the stability that Lucky can't. So I guess what I'm saying is yes. Yes, I will marry you."

Tom smiles, then jumps up and pulls Emily up and into an embrace. As he spins her around, he says, "I love you, Em. And as far as I'm concerned, this baby is mine."

Emily smiles, realizing she made the right decision. Now she just has to figure out a way to tell Lucky.

Tom reaches into his pocket and pulls out a ring box. As he slips the ring on her finger, Emily glances over her shoulder again.

She sees Laura and Staci standing nearby, waiting to be seated. Laura raises an eyebrow briefly out of curiosity, but says nothing. Emily smiles at Laura.

Laura briefly returns the smile as Staci looks up at her, "Isn't that Uncle Lucky's girlfriend?"

Laura looks down at Staci, "She used to be." Laura glances up at the host waiting to seat them, and then back to Staci, "Come on, honey, our table's ready and your mom will be here any minute."

With one final curious look at Emily, Laura follows the host and Staci to their waiting table.

Lu is back at Wyndemere after Lucky's driving tutorial. She sits alone in her room after changing out of the cream silk blouse and into an oversized t-shirt.

She can't sit still. The waiting is getting to her. She keeps staring at the clock on her nightstand, then at the nearby phone. "C'mon, Ritchie, any time now."

She jumps up and starts pacing. She looks at her watch, then back at her alarm clock, just to make sure both are right.

The phone finally rings. Lu jumps over to the bed and sits down. She takes a deep breath to calm herself as the phone rings again.

She finally picks it up. "Hello."

The voice on the other end was apprehensive, "Princess? Is that you?"

Lu smiles, "Yes, it's me. Ritchie?"

Lu can tell that he is smiling too as he says, "Ritchie Rich, at your service, kind lady."

Lu leans back on her bed as Ritchie continues to talk, "But first, I guess I should tell you my real name. It's Dylan."

"Hi Dylan. Mine's Lu."

"That's unique."

Lu laughs, "No, not when you know my family."

Dylan finally relaxes some, "So, you said that you were from New York in one of your emails. I live in Bensonhurst with my brother when I'm not at boarding school."

"Bensonhurst, as in New York City?"

"The very same."

Lu frowns slightly, she was hoping he was closer, "I live upstate."

Dylan adds, "I have family upstate that I'll be visiting in a couple of weeks when my brother goes on tour. I'd like to arrange to meet you, if that's okay."

Lu smiles again, "I'd like that."

"Well, how close are you to a town called Port Charles? Because that's where my family is."

Lu laughs, "I'm in Port Charles!"

Dylan laughs as well, "Great! Listen, why don't I give you a call when I arrive and we'll arrange something."

"Sounds perfect."

"Well, I'd better go, but I'll see you online later, right?"

"Of course, same time, same place," Lu says.

"I'll be there. Goodbye Princess."

Lu smiles, "Bye." She hangs up the phone and sighs again while smiling. "Dylan," she ponders the name aloud, then starts to giggle softly.

Downstairs, Stefan slowly hangs up the extension and frowns. "No Angel, you're not old enough for that yet."

A little while later, Lucky walks into the Grille. He scans the room quickly and sees the woman he's looking for.

He crosses the room quickly to Laura, who is sitting by herself. "How's my favorite blonde this afternoon?" he asks as he kisses her cheek.

Laura looks at him and smiles, "Fine, thanks."

Lucky sits across from his mother while looking around the room, "Nik said that you and Staci were coming here for lunch. Where's Staci?"

"I arranged for Gina to meet us. They're going to spend the afternoon together."

Lucky nods, "Good. I'm glad I caught you, though. I wanted to see if you needed anything before I leave."

"Leave, where are you going?"

"Nik asked me to do some work for him in Japan."

Laura smiles, Lucky has always seen himself as her protector. "I'll be fine while you're gone. I can take care of myself, no need to worry."

"I know you can. Because you're a Spencer." He catches himself. Looking down, he apologizes, "I'm sorry Mom, that's didn't come out right."

Laura reaches across the table and takes his hand, "No, it's okay. You're right. I am, and always will be for you and your sister." Softly, she adds, "I love my husband, Lucky, but I will never forget your father."

Lucky nods, but doesn't say anything.

Laura sits back and changes the subject, "So, where did you take Lu and Georgie this morning?"

Lucky smiles, "I'm teaching them how to drive." He pauses for a second to gauge her reaction. Nothing. He continues, "It'll be a great survival skill for them."

"Lucky, I don't think that making doughnuts in a field while driving an ancient Cadillac is a great survival skill."

Lucky thinks briefly, "Well Mom, look at it this way. Lu is growing up and she's gonna want to drive. As long as she lives with The Cassadine, she's going to have to be able to take care of herself. These driving lessons will help."

Laura puts her hands in the air in defeat, "Since you've already started, I'm not going to try and stop you. But Nikolas and Stefan will be another story. You know how they get."

Lucky smiles, "Not a problem. I'll handle 'em." He glances at his watch and stands quickly, "I gotta go, Mom, I've got to pack and catch a plane for Japan. I'll see you when I get back." He kisses her on the cheek again, "Love ya."

"I love you too, Lucky. Be safe."

"Always," Lucky says while leaving.

Across town, a slim but muscular blonde haired man is on the phone. "Yes, keep following them. I want a constant report on their location. I will move when the time is right." The man slams the phone shut.

Pacing, he says to no one in particular, "I have been crossed too many times. My patience is at an end. I'm finished with you, Cassadine. I will have my revenge."
