GH2011.2 - DEATHBED CONFESSION

Lucky runs a hand over his face before facing Lisa. He doesn't know what

to say or how to act. He realizes that this may be the last time he sees her.

He opens the ICU door slowly.

He inhales sharply at the sight that meets his eyes. She's hooked up to

monitors and life support and she's very pale. He suddenly feels very

guilty and responsible for her condition. "Oh Babe," he says as he sits

down next to her. "This is all my fault." He takes her hand in his and

kisses it gently. "I could have just told you to stay out of the way. I could

have kept you from getting hurt like this."

Lisa's eyes flutter open, "Oh please, Lucky. Get real. Like you could've

kept me out of it," she says weakly but with determination.

"You're awake!" Lucky exclaims, surprised, but pleased.

"I just wanted to see the look on your face," Lisa says slowly, then coughs

slightly and grimaces in pain.

"You just rest up and get your strength back," Lucky says encouragingly.

Lisa shakes her head, "Lucky, I don't think I'm gonna make it," she starts

off.

Lucky interrupts, "Then I have a lot to teach you about being a Spencer.

We have nine lives each, Sis. You can't give up so easily."

Lisa squeezes Lucky's hand, "There's something I have to tell you." She

starts off somberly, "I have a son, Zachary Xavier Smith. He's 14 months

old, and I haven't seen him in months." She coughs again and blinks away

tears. "I was only in the organization because my boss has my son and if I

don't do what she wants, I'll never see Zachary again. Once she finds out

about what I've done..." She can't finish her sentence because of her

emotions. "Lucky, I'm sorry, but there's no fight left in me. I have

nothing left to fight for."

"Like hell, I'm not letting you give up like that!" Lucky exclaims. "Leave

Zack to me. I'll have him back for you before you're ready to go home."

"Lucky, you don't understand, Tracy is ruthless. She'll sell Zachary to the

highest bidder before she'd let you get him back."

"Tracy?"

Lisa nods slightly, "Tracy Quartermaine, my boss."

Lucky smiles, then leans down and kisses Lisa gently on the forehead,

"You just leave it to me, Sis. I WILL get him back for you."

Lisa smiles, "Lucky, if I don't make it...raise Zachary like your own."

Lucky laughs, "Oh no, you can't do that to me. I'm in no position to care

for a kid. Especially one that young. I'll get him back but you have to

stick around. Promise me, Lisa. Promise me."

"Okay Lucky. I'll be here waiting when you get back," she says, her eyes

shutting as she drifts back into unconsciousness.

Lucky watches her sleep for a moment, then jumps as the tone from the

monitors changes. "NOOOOO! You promised me, Lisa!" he screams as

he rushes out the door to grab a doctor.

Jason and Lu arrive at the hospital about the same time, each with their

own entourage of bodyguards, "Hey Jason," Lu says.

"Hi, Lu. Have you heard anything about Lisa?" Jason asks.

"Lucky just said that she's out of surgery, but the doctors aren't promising

anything."

Jason nods, "That's the same thing he told me."

They walk in silence to Lisa's room. When they get there, they see Lucky

standing outside, nervously looking into the room. Inside the room, there

are about three doctors each working on Lisa. "What happened?" Lu

gasps.

"She flatlined," Lucky says monotone. Lu starts to cry. Lucky looks at

her, then quickly pulls her into an embrace. "It's okay, Lulu. Lisa's

strong, she's one of us. She'll be fine."

Jason watches the flurry of activity in silence. He smiles slightly as he

notices the blips on the monitor.

One of the doctors finally comes out, "Mr. Spencer, your sister is stabilized

for now. We'll be watching her very closely."

Lucky nods, "Thanks doc. Can we go in and see her?"

The doctor shakes his head, "I don't recommend it just yet. Let her rest

and gather some strength before she sees anyone."

Lu pulls away from Lucky and stares through the window into Lisa's

room. Lucky pulls Jason to one side, "I have something to ask you."

"Shoot."

"Lisa mentioned a kid. Said her boss has him. What can you find out

about this?"

Jason sighs, "Depends on what information you have for me."

"What do you want to know?"

"Did Lisa give you a name of her boss?"

Lucky frowns, "Yeah. Quartermaine. Tracy Quartermaine."

Jason shakes his head, the implications sinking in, "Damn, I should've

known. Okay, give me a couple of hours, then I'll have a location for

you." Jason heads off silently, planning his next moves.

Lucky turns back to Lu, "I'm gonna have to go for a while, but I want you

to keep an eye on her."

"Where are you going?" Lu asks.

Lucky smiles, "It's a surprise for you, but it's something that I promised

Lisa that I'd do for her."

Lu nods, "Just be careful, big brother."

Lucky kisses her forehead again. "You be careful too, Lulu."

She smiles, "I'm just gonna sit here and read a book until the doctors will

let me see Lisa." She plops down in the nearby chair and pulls a book out

of her jacket pocket.

Lucky looks at the spine of the book, "Queen Morgana and her Sex

Slaves?"

Lu shrugs, "It's a sequel."

Lucky nods, "I'm sure it is. I'll be back soon," he says before heading off.

*****

Laura sits in the Wyndemere living room, resting her head against the back

of the sofa, her eyes closed. Lesley walks in and sits in the rocker next to

her and just watches her.

After a minute, Laura detects her mother's presence, "Mother, how are

you?"

"I was going to ask you the same question," Lesley says slowly.

Laura nods, "I'm okay. Everyone is where they're supposed to be."

"What about Lucky and Lu's sister?"

Shrugging, she says, "I don't know what to think about that, Mother.

Lucky was so ambivalent at first, now he's practically living at the hospital.

Lu's there now too. I think that it's important for them to get to know

Lisa."

"So Luke never knew he had a daughter by Jennifer?"

"Not that I know of. Lisa is sure that he never knew."

Lesley sighs, "Does the rest of the family know that Staci is home safe and

sound?"

Nodding again, Laura says, "Stefan called Cassidy this morning. Kevin and

Lucy were there as well spending the Christmas holidays with the children.

How is Hans?"

"He's enjoying his couple of weeks off. I think he really likes teaching at

the med school. Alan certainly brags on him enough."

"Mother, I feel like I've been cut off from the rest of the world ever since

Staci was taken. I mean, life has gone on around me, but I have no idea

what's happened in the past several months. It's like living in a vacuum."

Lesley leans over and puts a hand on Laura's arm reassuringly, "I know

exactly how you feel, but it's over now and you can get back to your

normal lives."

"Normal?" Laura asks, laughing slightly, "What's normal?"
