GH2011.1: WAITING FOR NEWS

Lucky paces the OR waiting room. Carly comes up behind him and

touches his shoulder. Lucky jumps and wheels around.

"Oh, sorry, Lucky. I didn't mean to startle you," Carly apologizes.

Lucky shakes his head, "Don't worry about it, Cuz. I'm just a bit on

    edge."

Carly looks in his eyes, "Lucky, when was the last time you slept?"

"Sleep?" Lucky asks jokingly, "What's sleep?" Running a hand through his

hair, he asks, "How long does this surgery take?"

"What surgery? I thought your niece went home."

Lucky nods, "She did. Nikolas and Gina took Staci home last night. I'm

    waiting for news on Lisa."

    "Lisa?"

"Yeah, Lisa Smith. My sister. Dad's daughter."

"Lisa Smith," Carly repeats. "You mean the Casino Queen of New York?

She's your sister?" Carly lifts an eyebrow incredulously, "Luke had

another daughter that he kept quiet?" She mumbles to herself, "Any other

secret progeny out there that we don't know about?"

"It's not like that, Carly. He didn't know about her," Lucky says slowly,

running a hand through his hair. "Anyway, she was shot twice helping me

get Staci back. She lost a lot of blood." Lucky remembers who is

performing the surgery, "I thought that Tommy Hardy and Emily were on

    their honeymoon."

Carly looks at him blankly, "You didn't hear? Emily had a miscarriage

while they were on the way to their honeymoon. They turned the plane

around mid-flight and came back here."

Lucky gasps, "Damn. No, I hadn't heard that." The news sinks in, "Where

is Emily, I need to see her."

"Lucky, I don't know if that's such a good idea."

"Carly, if you don't tell me, I'll just find out from someone else. Or if I

have to, look in every room until I find her."

Carly pulls up Emily chart on the computer, "She's in room 435," she says

    softly.

Lucky smiles, "Thanks Cuz." Starting to head off, Lucky turns around, "If

you hear anything about Lisa, find me."

As Carly nods, Lucky walks away.

At Wyndemere, Lu and Stefan play chess in the game room. Lu seems

preoccupied. Stefan can't help but notice, "Angel, is something wrong?"

Lu shakes her head, "No. Just lots of stuff on my mind, I guess."

    "Like your new sister?"

"Yeah. I mean, here's this woman that just shows up out of the blue,

saying she's my father's oldest child. And Lucky seems to be okay with

    that. Am I missing something?"

Stefan smiles reassuringly, "Miss Smith is who she says she is."

"That isn't it, Daddy. It's just that Lucky's acceptance and approval of her

    was so...well...fast."

"I think that perhaps your brother is learned to accept the things he cannot

    change."

    Lu laughs slightly, "Since when?"

Stefan shrugs slightly, "It's a start?" he offers.

Laura smiles at them both as she walks into the room, "You two seem to

    be enjoying yourselves."

    Lu jumps up, "Any news?"

Laura shakes her head, "I'm sorry, sweetie. Nothing yet."

Lu sighs slowly. She wants to hear something soon. Staci comes padding

in wearing her pajamas and crawls up in Stefan's lap. "Grandpapa, would

    you tell me a story?"

He smiles and hugs her tightly, "Of course, Princess." He picks her up and

carries her to the sofa and starts to weave a tale.

Laura takes Stefan's place at the chess table. Lu starts off, "Mom, I've

been thinking. When all the holidays are over, I'd like to go back to PC

    High."

"Are you sure?" Laura asks gently, remembering Lu's slight paranoia about

going out in public that she developed while Staci was missing.

Lu shrugs, "Well, I stayed here with tutors while Staci was gone, but now

she's back. I mean, all the fruitcakes that took her are either dead or in

    jail,

right? So it's safe for me to go back, isn't it?"

Stefan looks up from his seat on the sofa with Staci, "I don't like it, Angel.

I much prefer you here with the tutors where nothing can happen to you."

"But Daddy," Lu protests gently, "I can't stay here my whole life."

Laura doesn't want a confrontation in front of Staci, so she suggests an

alternative, "I have an idea. Why don't you finish up this year with the

tutors, then return to PC High next fall."

"With guards," Stefan insists somberly. "There are always, how did you

    put it, fruitcakes, out there."

Lu thinks for a second. "Okay, that works." She's not sure whether she

was ready to jump right back into the world so fast anyway.

    *****

Lucky braces himself to go into Emily's room. He hasn't seen her since

their break up and he's not quite sure exactly what he's going to say to her.

Putting his hand on the door, he starts to go in.

Tommy comes up behind him and stops him, "Spencer, wait."

Lucky wheels around to face him, "How's Lisa?"

Tommy sighs, "She's in the recovery room, but I have to be honest with

you. Go say anything you need to say to her now. You probably won't

    get another chance."

Lucky nods quickly and head off to see Lisa. Tommy takes a deep breath

and places a hand gently on Emily's room door. "I don't want him to see

you anyway, Emily," he says just under his breath. "No need for you to be

reminded of what will never be."
